Josh Malihabadi was born as Shabbir Hasan Khan on December 5, 1894 in Malihabad, United Provinces of British India. An acclaimed Urdu language poet, Malihabadi studied at the St Peter's College at Agra and completed his Senior Cambridge examination in 1914. He also studied the Arabic and Persian languages from Tagore's university Shantiniketan. His ghazals and nazm are very popular in the Urdu literary circle. Josh wrote against the British Raj in a magazine called Kaleem. After India’s independence Josh migrated to Pakistan in 1958. His collection of poetry includes Shola-o-Shabnam, Junoon-o-Hikmat, Fikr-o-Nishaat, Sunbal-o-Salaasal, Harf-o-Hikaayat, Sarod-o-Kharosh & Irfaniyat-e-Josh (all Urdu titles). His autobiography is titled Yaadon ki baraat. Josh was also known as a master of the Urdu language.
